On Feb. 13, 2013, Jose passed away peacefully in Irvine, Calif., at the age of 87, after a long and courageous battle with Parkin-son’s disease.

Jose was born Aug. 1, 1925, to Antonio and Genoveva La Riva in Roswell. He graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe.

Jose married Consuelo Alvarado, the love of his life, on Nov. 17, 1951, and they were happily married for 61 [auth] years. They lived in Garden Grove, Calif., for 40 years, then moved to Santa Ana, Calif., where they lived for eight years before Jose went into an assisted living facility where he passed away.

Jose served our country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps for 22 years, serving in three wars: WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps he went to work for Pacific Bell Phone Company for 20 years.

His main loves in life, besides his family, were music, dancing and food. His collection of Mexican music was his pride, joy and relaxation. He was actively involved in his church, especially the Guadalupe Club at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Westminster, Calif.

Jose is survived by his wife Consuelo; his children, Lorenzo, Delores and Ramona; his grandchildren, Ryan, Blake and Alexis; his brothers, Augustine and wife Loraine, Raul and wife Carmen of Palm Dale, Calif., Roman of Tinni and Felix of Washington state; his sisters, Teresa and husband Henry of Cimi Valley, Calif., Mary of Wilmington, Calif. and Vivian of Picacho.
