ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The chairwoman of the Senate Rules Committee says there’s a “tremendous cloud” over the nom[auth] ination of Pete Rahn to New Mexico’s Transportation Commission.

Democrat Sen. Linda Lopez of Albuquerque made the comment in a letter sent this week to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez. She pointed to complaints the former head of the Transportation Department had about Rahn, who is chairman of the Transportation Commission.

Lopez says she will recommend that her committee vote against Rahn’s confirmation.

Lopez tells the Albuquerque Journal ( that she plans to bring the nomination up for a vote before the 60-day legislative session ends next Saturday.

Rahn was appointed to the post in 2011. Martinez’s administration argues that Rahn is perhaps “one of the most knowledgeable people in the country” when it comes to state transportation issues.
