Jackie S. Smith
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, for Jackie S. Smith, 84, who passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013, after several lengthy illnesses. Retired Gen. Jack Fox will conduct the services.
Visitation will be in the LaGrone Funeral Chapel, Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Jackie was born on May 11, 1928, in Rochester, Texas, to John Leslie and Vera Shindler.
She is survived by two children, Lowell Smith Jr. and his wife Becky, of Roswell, and Sherry Clarke, of Albuquerque. Jackie has remaining twin brothers, Bryan Speck, of Las Cruces, and Boyd Speck, of Kennard, Texas.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, in Roswell, Albuquerque, Dallas metro and Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her twin sister Juanita Hall, whom she dearly loved and missed so much these last few years of her life.
Many years ago Jackie received her nursing degree and worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s hospital, prior to moving to Dallas. She worked at Blue Cross-Blue Shield there and later worked at the Army-Air Force Exchange for several years before returning to Roswell.
Jackie’s hobbies and interests were quilting, embroidery, gardening, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She loved her frequent trips to Dallas for visits, quilt shows and sightseeing, and her occasional jaunts to Las Vegas, Laughlin and Albuquerque to the casinos. She also looked forward to and loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds at her kitchen window.
She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was thrilled in November to get to see her newest great-great-grandbaby.
Jackie left us all too soon with many warm and funny memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her family who loved her so very much and took care of her.
