Olga R. Parker, 75, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. She was born March 20, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Clyde R. Parker; her sons, Bruce Parker and Edward Parker; her daughter Carol Parker; by her parents Ramon and Caroline Roman, of Brooklyn; her brother-in-law Jack S. Wharton, of Las Cruces/ Ruidoso; and niece Donna P. Welborn, of Las Cruces.
She is survived by her sister [auth] Irene Wharton, of Las Cruces; her nephew Jay Moccio and spouse, of Visalia, Calif.; niece Dawn Machado and spouse, of Lemoore, Calif.; and three grandnieces, Brittany Brown and Brooke Sterrett, of Visalia, and Kirsten Welborn and grandnephew Jaden, of Ruidoso; three grandnephews, Chad Mendes, of Sacramento, Calif., and Cory Welborn and Derek Welborn, of Ruidoso; and numerous Parker family members including in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Olga served three years in the Army from 1955-1958. While she was stationed in Japan, she was a member of the WAC baseball team and successfully climbed Mt. Fuji twice during her tour of duty at Camp Zama, Japan. She met her husband Clyde, of Damascus, Va., while she was stationed at Ft Monroe, Va., and spent many happy years fishing and hunting with her husband and children until their demise. She was also an avid league bowler in her earlier years. She relocated to Las Cruces in Feb 2009 from Roswell, where she and her husband lived for 10 years prior to his death. Her soft-spoken demeanor and shy, gentle spirit will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Rest easy dear sister, you are finally home.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at Ballard Chapel, with burial to follow in South Park Cemetery.
