PGR at expo
This Saturday, Feb. 16, is the fourth annual Baby Boomer Expo at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center. The event is from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Whether you are a “baby boomer” (born between 1946-1964) or not, come and enjoy the fun. Who knows? You may get to meet Marilyn or Elvis. There will be lots of free stuff and information as well as great food. The Patriot Guard Riders will be recruiting and I’m told there’s a surprise for the first 125 who stop by the PGR table and ask about membership. See you there.
Come see us! Senior Circle will have a booth at the Baby Boomer expo Saturday Feb. 16 from 4-6 p.m. There will be demonstrations from Ann Garrison and Ginny Burton in yoga, Ruth Ann Speth and some of her students in line dancing and Aston Hugh in tai chi. The annual open mic reading for the Joy Writers of Roswell will take place Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Bassett Auditorium inside the Roswell Museum and Art Center. The following are scheduled to read a sample of their work: Beverly Coots, Jenny Currier, Barta Howse, M.J. Johns, Ralph Rivera, Carolyn Sidd and Rachel Thyrion. Refreshments will be served, and the public is cordially invited to attend. The writers’ group meets every Wednesday from 3:30-5 p.m. at the J.O.Y. Senior Citizens Center, 1822 N. Montana Ave.
Registration for youth co-ed volleyball will start Monday, Feb. 19, and run through March 22. Registration is $30 per player and is open to grades 3-8. Register at Yucca Recreation Center, 500 S. Presidents’ Day closure
Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will be closed Monday Feb. 19 in observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday. All campus offices will be closed and no classes will be held. The campus will reopen and classes will resume as scheduled on Tuesday. ENMU-R is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. until noon. Commission on Aging
The Commission will meet Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. at Wildewood Apartments Community Room, 201 Sherrill Lane. Any aging concern will be addressed, and Lloyd Scarrow, Lovelace CEO, will speak as will Tina Sanchez, Ombudsman Coordinator. Ombudsman are volunteers who help the state monitor senior facilities and those interesting should attend. “In Vogue” – Southwest Terrariums! Our meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 21, at First American Bank, 111 E. Fifth St. The public is invited to attend this informative program given by our guest, MaryAnn Moreno from Albuquerque’s Uptown Garden Club. Terrariums are back in vogue and MaryAnn will show us how to create our own!
