A gathering at the family home, 109 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Roswell, NM, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, for Donald Wayne Briggs, 66, of Roswell. Donald passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in Roswell. Pastor Randy Brown will offer the eulogy.
Donald was born Jan. 7, 1947, to Howard S. Briggs and Thelma L. Tapely in Roswell. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Green Beret. He was married to his sweetheart Rebecca Little on Jan. 10, 1977. He loved her dearly and they recently celebrated 36 years together.
He loved antiques, cars, trains, yard sales, and trading and making deals. He was a big jokester and enjoyed pestering those he cared about. He was loved very deeply by his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Rebecca Briggs, of the family home; three brothers, Robert C. Briggs and his wife Margaret, of Dexter, Howard G. Briggs Sr. and his wife Judy, of Georgia, and Harold Briggs and his wife Nancy, of Arizona; sister Billie M. Ashcraft, of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. His “babies” were his dogs, Tinker, Jemima and Bear, and his cat Sabrina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard S. Briggs and Thelma L. Tapely; sister Wanda L. Cain; brother James W. Mick; brother Dale C. Briggs; sister-in-law Barbara E. McCarty; and his precious dog Goober.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who helped take care of Donald in the last few years, including Dr. Adajar, Dr. Radar, Mike with Encompass Home Health, Scott Cooney, Shirley Avalos with Community Home Care, Steve and Rick with Lincare. Rebecca would like to especially thank nieces, Susan Curry and Patti Stacy, sister Linda Tarvin, and cousin Viola Deason, for all their help during this long battle.
