Polly Ann (Lair) Porter passed away quietly at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell. Polly was the beloved youngest daughter of W.E. and Ruby Jewel Lair. She trained as a dancer, performed and taught dance and worked as a professional vocalist in Baton Rouge, La., for many years. She was the wife of noted pianist Neal Porter until his death and the devoted companion of her toy poodle Peppi. Polly was a Democrat who involved herself locally, writing letters to the editor of the Roswell Daily Record, and she was a published poet. Her generous nature touched the lives of her numerous nieces and nephews. She was a social butterfly who loved to party. A creative spirit with a mischievous wit lived in Polly. She was a good sport who loved to laugh. Polly was an active member of the Wisconsin Lutheran Church in Roswell. She is survived by her sister Bobbie Louise (Lair) Willis and her brother Richard Lair. Polly did not want a funeral. She wanted a party and to have her ashes spread in a field of butterflies. We are tentatively planning her memorial celebration for May 25, 2013. If you would like to be included, please contact Sarah Elio at 575-578-2305.
