A rosary will be recited for George Giron, 66, of Roswell, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5 2013, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at St. John’s Catholic Church, with Deacon Ernesto Martinez officiating. George passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.
George was born in Dexter, to Alfredo Velasquez and Manuelita Velasquez, on May 25, 1946. He was raised by Eliseo and Olympia Giron. His hobbies included restoring classic cars and trucks and carpentry; and was an avid pool player. He also enjoyed spending time camping, hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma Giron, of [auth] Roswell; two daughters, Jeannette Salcido and husband Steven Boykin, of Roswell, and Jeannette Otero and husband Liam Griffin, of Ruidoso; three sons, David Rodriguez and wife Laura Rivera, John Giron and wife Veronica, of Los Lunas, and Larry J. Giron II, of Roswell; his mother-in-law Nen Carrasco; three sisters; Cruzita Velasquez Carrillo and husband Leo, Rosemary Velasquez Lopez and husband Robert, and Gloria Velasquez; five brothers, Joe Velasquez and wife Esperanza, Adan Velasquez and wife Elena, Fermin P. Velasquez, Alfred M. Velasquez and E. Ryc Velasquez and wife Diana; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Velasquez and Ramona Velasquez; grandchildren; Dwayne R. Garcia Jr., Andrew Barcia, Elijah Rodriguez, David Rodriguez, Dominic Rodriguez, William Robert George Boykin, Sabashtin Boykin, Aryanna Giron Trjuillo, Kathleena Giron Trujillo, Justice Giron, Jordan Giron, Arianna Otero and Matthew Otero. He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Carlos Carrasco, Joe Carrasco, Ernest Carrasco, Alice Carrasco and Marty Velasquez; and his special friends and compadres, Gilbert Chavez, Gene Gutierrez, Santos Chavez, Henry Trujillo, Louie Gonzales and Manuel Artiaga.
George was preceded in death by his daughter Anna Lee Giron; granddaughter Chloe Rae Lara; three brothers, Florencio Velasquez, Vicente P. Velasquez and Larry J. Giron I and his wife Gloria Lovato; sister Emma Velasquez Gonzales and husband Domingo Gonzales; and sister-in-law Maria Rosario Velasquez.
The family extends its special thanks to Dr. Braik, of Kymera, for his exceptional care throughout George’s illness.
