NM teen hit, killed by passenger train

BERNALILLO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy has been hit and killed by a passenger train in Bernalillo.

Bernalillo Police Chief Julian Gonzales [auth] says the teen was crossing the tracks at the south end of town when he was hit. Gonzales says the teen apparently didn’t see or hear the training approaching.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon as Amtrak’s Southwest Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles was nearing its daily stop in Albuquerque.

There were 116 passengers on the train. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released the teen’s name.
