Going home to her Lord and Savior, Shirley Naomi Anderson McAfee, 80, of Chandler, Ariz., died at Sante of Chandler on Jan. 14, 2013. She was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Washington, Pa., a daughter of David Harrison and Rosetta Beryl McCullough Anderson, both deceased. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Shirley attended Washington High School, graduating in the class of 1949. On May 27, 1950, she married Ivan Paul McAfee, Jr. and was married for 58 years before he went home with Jesus on Feb. 3, 2009. In addition to being a wife and mother, she also worked as a secretary and daycare worker.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Roswell, being active in choir, Kings & Queens Sunday School class and the Extended Worship class for children. She was a member of Senior Circle in Roswell and also attended the Christian Women’s Club meetings.
Surviving Shirley are a son I. Paul (Aimee) McAfee III of La Mirada, Calif.; daughters, Trudy Hadden of Naples, Fla., Karen (Johnny) Johnson of Tyler, Texas and Julie (Don) Hines of Chandler, Ariz. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob) Brinkman of Naples, Fla., Sam (Stephanie) Johnson of Tyler, Texas, Nathan (Amanda) Johnson of Albuquerque, Seth (Julie) Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Harmony McAfee (Jim Medina) of La Mirada, Calif., Megan Gailey of Sheridan, Ore., Tessie (Lucas) Alexander of La Mirada, Calif., Johanna (Aaron) Mackey of Chandler, Ariz., Derek Hines and fiancee Kati Satterberg of Portland, Ore., Elyssa and Felicity Hines of Chandler, Ariz.; eight great-grandchildren, Coral, Brayden and Andrew Gailey, Molly and Clive Johnson, Will and Charlie Johnson and Jillian Johnson; as well as her childhood friend, Peggy Boswell Hutchison of Washington, Pa.
Cremation has taken place according to Shirley’s wishes.
