ALCALDE, N.M. (AP) — A woman who claims she fatally shot a man in self-defense inside her Alcalde home has been arrested and charged with murder.
The Los Alamos Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/13Nou1h ) that 35-year-old Kaiwee Martinez was arrested Thursday and booked into the Rio Arriba County Detention Center in Tierra Amarilla.
Rio Arriba Sheriff Thomas R. Rodella tells the newspaper she is charged in the Nov. 3 shooting death of 33-year-old Lawrence Sandoval.
Martinez claims Sandoval barged into her home and tried to undress her at knife point. She says she grabbed a gun and shot him in self-defense, then fled and called 911.
Rodella says authorities do not believe Martinez’s story.
The Albuquerque Journal has previously reported that police statements filed in the case indicate the woman has given differing versions of events.
