EL PASO, Texas — Elaine Braden, of Roswell, N.M., and Al Braden, of Austin, announce the passing of their aunt Ruth Louise Betzel, a longtime resident of El Paso. Ruth went to be [auth] with our Lord on Jan. 13, 2013. She was born in Chicago, Jan. 21, 1915, the daughter of Martin F. and Ella M. Betzel. She moved with her family to El Paso in 1919 and loved this city and Zion Lutheran Church ever since. For the last five years, she was an active resident of White Acres Assisted Living, where she thrived in the company of this caring community.
Her greatest enjoyments were singing and being with young people. She sang in the Zion choir and often performed solos for weddings. Her love of children led her to teach Sunday school and serve as the youth director for many years.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Harding, Orr and McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana.
Church visitation will be Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, from 12 to 1 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 2800 Pershing Drive. A memorial service will follow at Zion at 1 p.m., with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery on Alameda Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to Zion Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour Ministries or to the charity of your choice.
