Around Town: Get help finding and securing grant funding

Grant Workshop
The Eastern New Mexico University- Roswell Customized Training Program will present “Currently Available Grant Funding with Emphasis on Regional and Corporate Funders” on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Lawrence C. Harris Occupational Technology Center, room 115. The class introduces the grant writer to the currently available funding opportunities and anticipated funding opportunities for 2013. Emphasis will be placed on using potential grant funding sources for your nonprofit or community agency. Registrants will be asked to pay $15 for the workshop. Registration will be available on-site or by contacting the Customized Training office, 624-7321.

Garden Club
Home Garden Club will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 9:30 a.m. Isabel Olsen will host the meeting in her home with Kathy Brown as co-hostess. Story League
The Roswell Story League will meet Thursday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at 144 East [auth] Cummings Loop for the annual fun-filled White Elephant Auction. Bring items to sell and money to buy! For additional information, call Carol Bignell at 347-2539.

Democratic Party
The Democratic Party of Chaves County will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Elks Lodge, 1720 N. Montana Ave.

Cheer Camp
Attention all four-year-olds through sixth-grade students! Come join the Goddard Rocket cheerleaders for their annual “Goddard Rocket Junior Cheer Camp” on Monday, Jan. 21 (no school due to Dr. Martin Luther King Day!) at Goddard High School. Cheer Camp registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. and camp is from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with a performance for parents at 12:15 p.m.! Cost is $25 and includes a healthy snack and a photo taken with a Rocket cheerleader. Wear tennis shoes and hair in a ponytail. The Rocket Spirit Store will be open. Can’t wait to see you!

Blood Drive
Peachtree Village Retirement Community, 1301 W. Country Club Rd., is encouraging everyone to “find the hero in you” with its upcoming Blood Drive for United Blood Services at Peachtree on Friday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. As a thank you, donors will receive points redeemable at the United Blood Services online store. Assistance League
Assistance League of Chaves County will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at the chapter house, 2601 N. Aspen. At 9:30 a.m., there will be a social with refreshments. CEO at Healthsense
Maridel Acosta, new CEO at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, will be the Healthsense speaker Friday, Jan. 18, at 11:30 a.m. She will discuss her upcoming plans for the hospital and personnel. Healthsense is at Senior Circle in the Wilshire Center, 2801 N. Main St., next door to Family Dollar. The talk is open to the public and a light lunch will be served. High Prairie Poets
If you cherish good poetry, please come join us as the High Prairie Poets congregate for their January meeting, Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Patricia Lubben Bassett Auditorium of the Roswell Museum and Art Center. Please bring a poem or poems of your choice—original or otherwise—to share. The themes for this month are winter and “favorite things”; but all worthwhile poetry, beginners’ efforts included, is welcome. Support poetry and literacy in Roswell, and meet some kindred spirits, too!
