GRANTS, N.M. (AP) — A head-on collision on Interstate 40 east of Grants in western New Mexico caused several fatalities and injuries.

New Mexico State [auth] Police Lt. Robert McDonald says an eastbound tractor-trailer rig crossed the median and collided head-on with a westbound rental truck Wednesday morning.

McDonald says all three people in the rental truck were killed and that the big rig’s driver and a passenger were injured.

Traffic was diverted off I-40 onto a state highway for several hours before one lane of I-40 was reopened in each direction.
