DETROIT [auth] (AP) — A furniture chain founder is donating 150 mattress sets to Detroit firefighters for use in their stations.

Mayor Dave Bing was on hand Monday to accept the donation from Art Van Furniture founder Art Van Elslander.

Bing’s office says the donation comes through the Detroit Public Safety Foundation.

Bing says crews delivered 14 sets of mattresses and box springs Monday morning to the Engine 50 Ladder 23 station on the city’s east side.

The firehouse is one of the busiest in the country and was featured in the documentary “Burn.”

The mayor’s office says Art Van Furniture will deliver 136 more mattress sets to fire stations after Jan. 1.
