Pedestrian fatally struck south of Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, N.M. (AP) — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a truck on U.S. 550 about 30 miles south of Bloomfield.

The [auth] San Juan County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Nathan Sylvester Bloomfield died Saturday.

The truck’s driver, 35 year-old Todd Begay of Aztec, tells investigators that Sylvester stepped out into his lane and was struck by the vehicle’s side mirror.

Investigators say Begay called 911, began performing CPR and showed no signs of being impaired.

Authorities are awaiting toxicology test results to determine whether Sylvester was impaired.
