Sheriff requests help in victim ID

On Nov. 19, Chaves County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a possible homicide victim located east of Hagerman, off NM 249. The body was discovered by a county worker. Responding deputies located a Hispanic male who was deceased. Officials found nothing at [auth] the scene to assist in the identification of the victim.

The Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque ruled the death a homicide. The victim died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office has two possible persons of interest in the case who have been incarcerated in Lea County Detention Center on separate charges. However, the identity of the victim remains unknown.

According to the OMI, this victim is of Indian-Mexican descent with a dark skin tone. His age is estimated between 17 and 22. He had brown eyes and brown hair. The victim also had acne scars on his face and, at the time of his death, a “thin” goatee.

The Sheriff’s Office has obtained postmortem reconstruction photo of this victim and is releasing it in hopes of identifying him. The victim also had several tattoos. The two most distinctive are pictured here.

The victim was between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing between 140 and 150 pounds.
