Xavyr Jo-Ray Herrera
Airman 1st class – E1 rank
Active soldier, he is now a soldier for my Christ Jesus. Xavyr’s death is no more than a true example of the evil that is upon this Earth. He was truly one of a kind. He loved playing cards, even though he did not play with a full deck. He was a character within a character. He always knew how to make you laugh in his crazy little ways. We will never forget his big beautiful smile, adorable eyes and his “Herrera” chin.
Xavyr was an atlas of knowledge. From a very young age he was always eager to learn. He loved making new inventions, many ideas for any and everything. He was a go-getter, an entrepreneur, he was to his brothers and his mamma their best friend. He was our shadow, our teacher, our example. To mom he was her “LIL MAN.” To us, he was everything.
Xavyr didn’t care who you were or where he was, because I assure you he was going to make an impression on you. If you were standing in a store and he was next to you, he was either going to convince you to purchase something off the shelf, or he would tell you, “Hey … did you know …” and then he would explain how it was made, what it was used for, or what you could do with it, and if that did not work, he would ask you to get it for him.
He was EVERYTHING, a mother, a father, a son, a wife, a brother, an aunt, an uncle, a cousin, a friend you could ask for and be proud of. Xavyr was and as he would put it, “I’m your favorite disease.” He was a true social butterfly. To his Rent-a-Dad, they always snuck a hug from each other somehow or another. He would wake up and say, “Hey, Rent-a-Dad, where’s my hug?” and Garry called him his Rent-a-Son, and got his hug.
His dreams were exactly what they were beginning to be. He loved being in the shop with Bobby and Garry. Because of his artistic ways, huge active imagination and his eagerness to learn, he wanted to create and design something new every day.
His dream cars were Corvettes and 350Z. He loved his ’67 Chevy short-bed. He constantly talked about how he was going to have her done. He loved bikes of all sorts, from cars, to music new and old. As his sister Kristen says, “He loved to sing, even though he can’t.” He was a huge true Cowboy fan. He was also a big Bob Marley fan all the way around, to the point he would fight with Mom about getting dredlocks. To his Tio Boo Boo, he was everything an uncle could ask for. He was loved more than anything by us, other than the love we have for God. He was our family’s GOLDEN CHILD. He was our father’s clone, and now his lil messenger. If I had to put one phrase to explain him, it would be hakuna matata. It means not worry in the world, that’s how he lived in our eyes. He was the son his Tio Boo Boo never ever had. I will always love you, Chango. To his brother Santiago, he was his best friend, and when he had no friends, Xavyr was all he needed. He was the closest thing to a dad when he was stepping out of line. NO matter who he’s with, Dogs always said he was always his father figure. To his twins, he loved them so much he always wanted to adopt them. His plans were as his Papo’s plans were, to send his children to school. He always said how he wished he were athletic like the twins, and wanted to watch them on TV one day as they made a touchdown, or solid tackle, and look in the screen and say, “That’s for you, Brother.”
Isaiah 41:10: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you with my righteous right hand.
GOD CALLED OUR HANDSOME MAN XAVYR BACK HOME AND ALTHOUGH HIS 19 SHORT YEARS OF LIFE ON EARTH SEEM MINISCULE, HE WILL NOW BE WITH OUR LORD FOR ETERNITY … A MAGNIFICENT GIFT NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE AWAY FROM HIM.
XAVYR WAS NOT ALONE, FOR GOD SAID, “LO I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD.” MATTHEW 28:20
WE MAY NEVER TRULY UNDERSTAND HOW OR WHY THIS SENSELESS VIOLENCE CLAIMED OUR LOVED ONE AND BROUGHT GRIEF TO OUR LIVES. FOR EVERY DROP OF BLOOD THAT WAS SPILLED FROM HIS PRECIOUS BODY, A THOUSAND TEARS FROM HIS LOVING MOTHER HAVE BEEN SHED AND BY ALL WHO LOVED XAVYR.
AS I GAZE UPON MY SISTER’S FACE AND EYES, I SEE A DEEP UNCONSOLABLE PAIN, AND SOLITUDE. THE AGONY IN HER DRAINED BODY TEARS ME APART, BUT THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES SHARED WITH ONE ANOTHER FROM XAVYR’S LIFE BRING A SENSE OF COMFORT AND JOY TO US ALL.
XAVYR JOINED THE MILITARY TO SERVE AND PROTECT HIS COUNTRY, SOMETHING HE BELIEVED, IN SO THAT HIS SON AND THOSE AROUND COULD ENJOY THEIR FREEDOM.
OUR LORD GOD GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, AND BY THE INHUMANITY OF MANKIND, OUR SAVIOUR WAS SPAT ON, SCORNED, SCOURGED AT THE PILLAR, CROWNED WITH THORNS AND NAILED TO DIE ON THE CROSS HE CARRIED. OUR SAVIOR’S PRECIOUS BLOOD WAS SHED FOR OUR SINS SO THAT MANKIND WOULD HAVE SALVATION.
NEVER AGAIN FROM THAT MOMENT SHOULD THERE HAVE BEEN ANOTHER DROP OF BLOOD SPATTERED.
FORGIVENESS MAY BE ONE OF THE HARDEST STRUGGLES IN OUR LIFE TO OVERCOME.
BY THE GRACE OF GOD, PRAYER AND LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER WE’LL CONTINUE THE JOURNEY AND ONE DAY BE REUNITED WITH OUR LOVED ONES AND IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD GOD.
REVELATION 21:4: “HE WILL WIPE AWAY EVERY TEAR FROM THEIR EYES, AND DEATH SHALL BE NO MORE, NEITHER SHALL THERE BE MOURNING, NOR CRYING, NOR PAIN ANYMORE, FOR THE FORMER THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY.”

My Lil Man,
I never got a chance to say goodbye, but then again we made the pact to never say goodbye but see ya later, love you. Losing you has been the biggest test of true faith for me. You have always made me a very proud mother. You have always, even now, at the most agonizing time of my life in losing you, you still make me so, so proud. You just barely came home from training and only had a very few short days to share with you has now given me only a very small amount of peace for the time you were gone from me. With all the evil and envy, trials and tribulations that were thrown at us, we always found our way back together. Back to our lil circle of 5. Mejo, your death was not in vain. Because this tragic loss has brought sisters together again, an enemy to ask for forgiveness, brothers to see reality, a father to see his sons truly need him, a mother to see she was wrong and to trust her son to where they need each other then, mejo, to us you were our savior here on Earth. You were always considered the Golden Child to our family, but back then we could have never known that your purpose driven was exactly what my father has always taught us. I know my Daddy needed you again. In this and all the little signs that have been given to me, I know without a shadow of a doubt that he has swept you into his arms and is standing right behind you and you in front as you always were here on Earth. As our song says, “Someone whispers in my ear and says, ‘You are not alone, I am here with you though we’re far apart you’re always in my heart.’” Every time you sang that song to me, I always hurt for our times apart or disagreements we had, but somehow or another, we always found a way back to each other. No one will ever break that bond. Now that I hear this song, it merely reminds me that you are still here. Your Papo died on the 13th, as well as you have. Papo’s birthday is the 21st; you’re being laid to rest on the 21st. You did exactly as he did for us. You proved yourself a man. You are even an Airman as he was and now a provider for your son. Your life, Your legacy as you were mine, watching over me. El Rey de los Reyes. My Lord Savior, Daddy and you.
I laugh now how we used to argue who loved Papo more, or who was his favorite. Now I know it was the both of you who loved me. You are my lil man. You are my best friend, You are my strength.
Mejito, I can only feel sorry for the persons who did this to you and only pray that they have a mother who loves them if only half as much as I have ever loved you. I pray, mejo, that God guides these detectives and gives them wisdom and strength and those, the courage to speak the truth so that you may have peace and justice here on Earth. You are in the arms of the angels, a soldier for Christ, a defeater. We will be together again someday and I ask God to give me strength for your brothers to teach them that what is bound here on Earth will be bound in heaven. They may have taken your precious life from here but Our circle will not be broken.
This has changed my life forever, as with many who loved you. I will never say goodbye to you, my lil man, but see ya again. I love you, Son,
Xavyr Died a Man. A real Man. He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and always in our hearts.
