FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — A Farmington man is facing charges after he allegedly ran a traffic light and his vehicle was hit by a police officer’s patrol car.

San Juan County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash, which happened before dawn Wednesday at the intersection of Main Street and Butler Avenue.

Firefighters had to use tools to pry open the vehicle to get to 25-year-old Cody Olachea and his passenger, 21-year-old Deseree Trujillo. Olachea was treated for minor injuries, but Trujillo remains hospitalized.

Officer Tyler Brown was treated and released.

Investigators say Brown was traveling through the intersection with a green light and that Olachea failed to stop. The patrol car hit Olachea’s vehicle on the passenger side, sending it sliding across the intersection and into a restaurant parking lot.

Investigators say toxicology tests on Olachea are pending.
