ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a New Mexico man arrested on drug charges tried to hide more of his loot in an unusual place while heading to jail — a deputy’s car.
KRQE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/TxBzED) that the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department says 31-year-old Raymond Rodarte (roh-DAR’-teh) tried to discard a bag of marijuana, heroin and cocaine on the floor of his arresting deputy’s vehicle last week.
Rodarte was pulled over in Albuquerque for driving with expired tags. He was arrested after deputies say they found drug paraphernalia in his car and Rodarte reeked of marijuana.
But authorities say while taking Rodarte to jail a deputy smelled a strong marijuana odor in the sheriff’s department’s vehicle, then found the bag of drugs.
Rodarte is facing drug trafficking charges.
