A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Roswell to celebrate the life of Garnetlu Baxley, 80, who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

Garnetlu was born Aug. 5, 1932, to Leslie Floyd [auth] and Zeola Hartzell, in Kingfisher, Okla.

Garnetlu was preceded in death by her parents Leslie Floyd and Zeola Hartzell; her husband Kenneth Baxley; and son Jerry Baxley.

She is survived by her daughter Julie Baxley, of Roswell; son Kendall Baxley and his wife Heather, of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Melissa Seley and her husband Frank, of Roswell; three beautiful granddaughters who were the lights of her life, Claire Seley, Rylee Baxley, and Bethany Baxley-Grow; and her newest joy, great-grandson Ryker Scott Grow. Garnetlu is also survived by her sister Wanda Lee Cowart, of Spokane, Wash.

In 1940, Garnetlu’s family made the move from Oklahoma to Roswell by train. With her outgoing personality, Garnetlu quickly made lifelong friends with nearly everyone she met, as was her way.

In 1953, she married her true love Kenneth Baxley. They made Roswell their home and raised their four children here.

Garnetlu started a career in banking at an early age and worked in the field for more than 50 years. She loved helping all of her customers over the years, being proud of the fact that she had given lollipops to three generations along the way. After retiring from banking in 1989, Garnetlu pursued a second career in insurance. She combined her love of customer service with her knowledge of the industry to help countless families with their insurance needs.

While always a working mother, Garnetlu’s top priorities were always faith and family. Her example of perseverance and unconditional love will always live in the hearts of her children and will be her lasting legacy.
