James Edward McKibben, known as “James Ed” to his friends and family, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at age 73. James Ed was born and raised in Corona, but had been a resident of Roswell for over 40 years.
James Ed was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Corona to Herman and Lee McKibben. He was a twin, but his twin brother was stillborn. He graduated from Corona High School in 1957 where he played on the basketball team. He served four years in the Air Force as part of the Air Commandos at Howard Air Force Base in the Canal Zone in Panama. After his military service, James Ed worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department. He retired in 1991 after 33 years. His goal was to be retired for as many years as he had worked. While he didn’t quite make that goal, he still spent the last 21 years in retirement enjoying his numerous pets, reading, and cooking.
He is survived by one daughter, Christel Longoria and her husband Ben, of Edmond, Okla., one sister, Sue Berryhill, of Alamogordo, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services for James Ed will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Berrendo Baptist Church in Roswell.
