Police: NM mom let underage son drive drunk

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A mother is facing child abuse charges after Albuquerque police say she let her underage son get drunk then get behind the wheel.

KRQE-TV reports ( [auth] that Lolita Kellywood was arrested this week after her son crashed their car.

The boy told police that his mother let him take three shots of vodka and then let him drive her and his 15-year-old brother around.

According to police, the boy blew below 0.08, the legal limit for presumed intoxication, but he admitted to also taking some drugs.

The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested for DWI.

It was unclear if the boy or the mom had an attorney.
