OREM, UTAH — Vicki Gale Freek, 1949-2012, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the Timpanogos Hospital in Orem, Utah. She retired in July with 30 years of service as a medical records audi tor with the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center, and moved to Utah to be with family as she struggled with the complications of liver failure.
Vicki was born in Carlsbad, N.M., on September 10, 1949, to Roy Henry Freek Jr. and Mary Alta Berry. She was the first of 10 children to be part of this family. Vicki graduated from Carlsbad High School, and received a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University. She loved learning and sharing her knowledge with those around her.
Family members who preceded her death include: Roy Henry Freek Jr. (1971), Mary Alta Berry Freek (1999), and Roy Henry Matthews (2010).
Surviving family members include: Patsy Freek, of Provo, Utah, Terry Freek, of Orem, Utah, Arthur Freek, of Belen, N.M., Rose Mary Fitts, Betty Freek, David Freek and Peggy Freek, all of Provo, Utah.
Vicki loved reading, cooking and crocheting. For many years she would crochet a blanket to be raffled off at her work’s Christmas party with the proceeds going to the patience fund. Secretary Alfredo Vigil said, “This speaks volumes for the compassion you bring to your job and to the center’s patients.” Vicki was a reserved sweet soul who looked for opportunities to quietly serve others. She leaves behind a legacy for her family and those who knew her of how to be a Christ-like, child of God. We will miss her wit along with that giggle.
