Local eye care specialists celebrated on Monday Dr. Wayne Delamater’s recent joining of the Eye Associates of New Mexico during a reception at his office in Pecos Valley Medical Complex, 1606 Southeast Main St.

Separately, ophthalmologist Delamater and the Associates have provided eye health services throughout the state for more than 30 years. They have always maintained a good working relationship, said Delamater. He decided [auth] to join the Associates to better serve his clients.

“As I look toward retirement, I want somebody to be here to take care of my patients,” he said.

With locations and doctors available throughout the state, he said it “can offer more care than a single practitioner.”

The organization has thought about coming to Roswell for at least a decade, said Steven Jaime, clinic director of Eye Associates in Clovis and Roswell.

After a year-long pro-cess, it finally came to be earlier this month. “We all felt it was the right time,” he said.

Patients will no longer have to travel to The Associates’ nearest location in Clovis to receive services. Instead, services will come to them.

Dr. Tina Watterberg, an ophthalmologist and ca-taract surgeon at the Clovis location, will make visits to see patients in Roswell and has joined the medical staff at Lovelace Regional Hospital.

“I’m very excited about this; this is going to be a great location,” she said. “In Clovis, I was seeing so many people from Roswell and I was just like, ‘This is crazy.’”

She said they also are hoping to eventually get other specialists and surgeons in areas such as retinal and glaucoma on a visiting schedule.
