Roswell Nissan ready for its grand opening Dec. 15

When the newest vehicle dealership in Roswell opened for business Monday, it became the first new Nissan-authorized location to open in the United States this year.

Krumland Auto Group opened Roswell Nissan at 2111 W. Second St. on Monday. The official grand opening will be Dec. 15, said Tom Krumland, founder-owner of the group.

The $5.3 million facility initially will be staffed by 25 full-time employees, said Tommy Krumland, general manager of Roswell Nissan.

“Within 12 months, we expect to bring that number up to 40 full-time employees,” Tommy Krumland added.

In addition, the contractor for the project, TNT Construction, has employed hundreds of workers through Roswell area subcontractors to build the Nissan dealership on 4.5 acres of land. The dealership is located between the auto group’s Roswell Honda and Roswell Hyundai stores.

Toby Gross, managing partner of TNT Construction, said the upscale Nissan dealership has been [auth] built to the highest-quality standards. “The building materials are the best available,” he stressed.

Gross has considerable experience building car dealerships. In Chaves County alone, he has built the Roswell Toyota, Roswell Honda and Roswell Hyundai stores.

He said that although Roswell Nissan originally was scheduled to open in December, construction of the dealership went so smoothly it was able to open on Monday.

“We had a strong commitment from Krumland Auto Group and our subcontractors to get the job done, and it shows,” Gross said.

He referred to the new building as “state of the art” throughout.

Gross said the heating and cooling system has been built to standards that make it 95 percent efficient, which carries the dealership’s energy-efficiency theme. The building’s roof has been insulated to R-30 standards.
Safety, too, has been a consistent theme in constructing the building.

In the dealership’s service area, sensors have been installed to detect carbon monoxide. If any is detected, large vents open on both ends of the garage and fans expel the gas.

“We want a safe and comfortable work environment for everyone working for us,” Krumland said.

Touring the dealership while it was under construction, Krumland pointed to a room where showers were being installed for service technicians.
At one end of the service department is a 16-foot door leading to a heavy-duty lift that can hoist a 50,000-pound vehicle.

Krumland said the dealership “will offer 17 different Nissan models, including our commercial side. The commercial lift is geared toward commercial business in and around Roswell. These include 15-passenger vans, as well as cargo vans. We also will service other brands of commercial vehicles.”

With the tall door and heavy-duty lift, items such as ladders won’t have to be removed from commercial vehicles before they are brought in to the service department, he said.

“We’ll be carrying both of Nissan’s high-end sports cars, all of Nissan’s fuel-efficient cars, from Altima, Sentra and Versa, as well as Nissan’s truck line, Titan and Frontier, mini-van, and SUVs, from the more fuel-efficient Rogue to the larger, three-row Armada,” Krumland said.

He said amenities for customers include “a comfortable lounge, with a large, flat-screen television, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor putting green for service department customers.” The dealership also plans to add a mini-mart with cold drinks and snacks for customers in the future.

Krumland said there also will be a large viewing area where customers can watch their vehicles being serviced.

In addition, Roswell Nissan and the other Krumland Auto Group dealerships will offer drive-up, paintless dent repair and paint touchup service, Krumland said. “Drive up, we’ll look at it, and take care of the repair right away,” he said.

Joe Reiser, chief operations officer for Krumland Auto Group, said, “We’re proud of the positive impact our company is having in Chaves and Eddy counties.”

The company’s five other dealerships in Roswell and Carlsbad paid $893,738 in gross receipts taxes in 2011 and through August of this year.

Krumland Auto Group currently employs about 200 people at its Toyota, Honda and Hyundai dealerships, and at its Klean Kar Kar Wash on West Second Street.

Besides the Roswell dealerships, the auto group owns Carlsbad Chevrolet and Carlsbad Ford. The two Carlsbad dealerships employ about 50 people.
