Angel Tree sign ups are up and running now through Nov. 16. Please bring picture I.D., proof of residence and income, children’s birth certificates and social security cards for the family.

Open Mic
Pecos Flavors Winery, 305 N. Main St., will be hosting an open mic night Friday, Oct. 26, starting at 6 p.m. There will also be $2 draft beers from 4-6 p.m.

Junior Olympics
The Pecos Valley Cross Country Championships, for which qualifying area runners for the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics will be selected, will take place Friday, Oct. 26, from 4-6 p.m., with registration and [auth] course preview taking place from 3-4 p.m. at Gateway Christian School’s football field and track, 1900 N. Sycamore Ave. Participants must be in grades 3-8 and will be separated by boys and girls divisions. All will run 2k cross country. Navy Jazz Band
The U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for more than 40 years. On Friday, Oct. 26, the band will present a showcase performance at Pearson Auditorium, on the NMMI campus, at 7 p.m. Seating is limited and those wishing to attend the performance should contact NMMI Regimental Bandmaster, Bill Lamb, 624-8442, for information. The concert is free and open to the public.

Bird Watchers
The October meeting of the Roswell United Field Ornithologist’s will be held at Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Visitor Center. The schedule is: 8-10:30 a.m. tour of the refuge. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. club meeting. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. pot luck dinner. Visitors are welcome.

Porcelain Club
The Yucca Porcelain Art Club will meet Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2801 W. Fourth St. Visitation is at 9 a.m., business meeting at 9:30 a.m. Clara Menefee, from Artesia, will be demonstrating a faux-finish leather technique painted on china. Visitors are welcome. Make A Difference
The Altrusa Club will be participating in Make a Difference Day in front of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. They will have a mammogram van and information on breast cancer. They will also have a children’s book drive at this time. The Altrusan’s ask that members of the community bring new or gently used children’s books to Altrusa tables. The books will be distributed at BCA Medical, Harvest Ministries and other organizations.

Kids Safety
The Roswell Home Depot, 2350 N. Main St., wants to educate local kids about all aspects of safety. The Home Depot will be hosting the city of Roswell Fire Dept., the Sierra Volunteer Dept., the Roswell Police Dept., Superior Ambulance, a MediVac helicopter, Remco Inc., the Dexter Fire Dept., NM State Police, Coca-Cola, the Lincoln Forestry Dept. Smokey the Bear District and Let’s Play Entertainment Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The even will include a jolly jump face painting, a fire obstacle course, child fingerprinting, and a vehicle extracation demonstration featuring the jaws of life.

Outrun Fear
A committee of Eastern New Mexico University- Roswell students is hosting a special event in October to raise funds for the Chaves County Cancer Fund. The Outrun Fear Organization is sponsoring a Run/Walk Haunted Trail at Cielo Grande Park at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The cost is $20 per running/walking participant and includes a T-shirt and goodie bag while quantities last. Additional donation levels are available: Platinum ($500+), Gold ($200), Silver ($100), and Bronze ($50).
