GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The recent traffic backup near a west Michigan corner wasn’t accidental.

It was Jasmine Hurtado’s show-stopping performance that caused people to slow and take notice.

The14-year-old Christian singer was filming her third music video for a song entitled “Nuestro dios es grand” which translates to “Our God is great.” It will be the first single off the teenager’s second album, which she hopes to have finished by December.

The teen isn’t shy about sharing her faith and hope others hear her musical and life messages.

“I see that the Spanish youth is just lost, completely lost right now, and I just want to reach them first because they’re my blood,” Hurtado said. “There’s not many young people that will encourage them and lead them to Christ. I want to be a role model for them.”

Hurtado recorded her first Spanish-language album in 2010. She is more comfortable speaking English but she records in her native tongue because she feels like Latino youth needs to hear her.

Hurtado attends the Resurrection Life church in Grandville, where she is involved with the Youth Praise and Worship. Friends from the church played a large role in helping Hurtado film her video, dancing with her as well as providing the choreography.

Hurtado said a lot of her passion for music came from her mother’s side of the family, many of whom were worship leaders or singers. Her parents are very supportive of her music career.

“We want her to motivate other kids her age, so they know they can do something,” said her mother, Noelia Hurtado. “To us that’s our purpose, to support her so other kids her age and even younger know that they can do something with their life.”

Hurtado hopes to have her newest video finished and online soon. It will be found on her website Her other projects are already on
