Republican Women to host guest speakers; Roswell Preppers helps prepare for emergencies

Republican Women
The Chaves County Republican Women will have their monthly meeting Wednesday, Sept. 19, at noon at the Elks Lodge, 1720 N. Montana Ave. Guest speakers will be Sen. William (Bill) Burt, candidate for Senate District 33 and the Honorable Robert (Bob) Corn, candidate for Chaves County Commission District 4. Lunch will be served for $11. Roswell Preppers
The Roswell Preppers will meet Monday, Sept. 17, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Church’s Chicken North, 2828 N. Main St. Come and learn how to be more prepared for emergencies. Contact or call 317-0897 for more information.

Immunization Clinic
The N.M. Department of Health and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of N.M. are offering free adult and child flu shots, childhood immunizations, and adult pneumonia vaccine shots on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the McDonald’s UFO Restaurant on Main Street. Parents are encouraged to bring their children’s shot records. Nurses will be on hand from 8 a.m. to noon. For questions, call 505-850-7066.

Learn the skills of good communication by being a Toastmaster. Weekly one-hour meetings are held on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church on the corner of Union Avenue and 19th Street. For more information, call 625-2626.

Commission on Aging
The Commission on Aging will meet Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at Villa Del Rey Retirement Center, 2801 N. Kentucky Ave. Any aging concern will be discussed, and Roswell’s Fire Chief, Chad Hamill, will take questions on fire procedures in retirement facilities. Cancer Group
Cancer With Grace Support Group presents “Understanding Our Differences”, a DVD by Georgia Shaffer, MA. Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 935 W. Mescalero Rd., room 102. ENMU-R Flea Market
The Eastern New Mexico University- Roswell Sierra Vista Resident Council and the Electronics Club will sponsor a flea market on Sept. 29 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sierra Vista Village (residence halls) courtyard on campus. Giant Yard Sale
The Roswell Humane Society is seeking participants for a giant yard sale, to include between 50-500 yard sales all in one location. Set up your sale for only $25, and keep 100 percent of the money you make! Booth spaces are 10 by 20 feet. The giant yard sale will take place Saturday, Sept. 22, from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Wool Bowl Soccer Complex. Businesses and food vendors are welcome. Drug Takeback
