Giant yard sale to benefit the Roswell Humane Society

Giant Yard Sale
The Roswell Humane Society is seeking participants for a giant yard sale, to include between 50-500 yard sales all in one location. Set up your yard sale for only $25, and keep 100 percent of [auth] the money you make! Booth spaces are 10 by 20 feet. The giant yard sale will take place Sept. 22 from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Wool Bowl Soccer Complex. Businesses and food vendors are welcome. For details, visit the Roswell Humane Society at 703 E. Science Saturday
Goddard Planetarium, 100 W. 11th St., invites you to begin the new school year by considering a visit or multiple visits to the planetarium. Astronomy is an important component of science education and planetarium programs, particularly when combined with current classroom instruction units, and helps to meet New Mexico standards and benchmarks. Specific programs may be explored at the Planetarium website,, by clicking on the School Show link. Programs are family-oriented and free of charge. Science Saturday will be this Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-noon and will present “In My Backyard.”

Calling Poets
The High Prairie Poets Society is resuming meeting. All poets and persons interested in poetry are invited to come to the first get-together of the 2012-2013 year, to be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Patricia Lubben Bassett Auditorium of the Roswell Museum and Art Center. There will be a poetry reading, so please bring a poem or poems—whether original, or one(s) you’ve selected from the literature of others—to share.

Iris Society
The Pecos Valley Iris Society will meet at Pegi Naranjo’s home, 3102 N. Montana Ave., Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. We will be discussing the iris rhizome sale on Sept. 22 at the Farmers’ Market by the Courthouse, as well as plans for the State Iris Convention to be held in Roswell Oct. 20 and 21. Please bring any gifts you will be donating for the State Convention. Gifts should be in the $20 range. This meeting welcomes anyone who has a love for iris or wants more information on growing them.
