RUIDOSO — Visitation for Rafael “Old Grandpa” Rodela Sr., 76, of San Patricio, will be from 2 to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, LaGrone Funeral Chapel, Ruidoso. Prayer service for Rafael will be Wednesday at 7 p.m., at St. Jude [auth] Catholic Church in San Patricio, where a funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., on Thursday, July 26, 2012, with the Rev. Al Galvan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Jude’s Catholic Cemetery.
Rafael was born on May 4, 1936, in San Patricio, to Elijio and Martina (Bartlett) Rodela. He was adopted after losing his birth parents, Esabel and Concepcion Montoya. He passed away on July 23, 2012, in Alamogordo. He lived his entire life in San Patricio.
He worked in road construction for the New Mexico Department of Transportation, retiring after 15 years to his home in San Patricio. Rafael was a very sociable man and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He was a very devoted member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded by his parents; and his wife Mary Rodela, in 1994.
He is survived by his sons, Rafael Rodela Jr. and wife Mary, of San Patricio, Franklin Rodela and wife Sandra, of Ruidoso Downs, and Chris Rodela and wife Anna Marie, of Los Lunas. He is also survived by his step-sons, Lawrence Chavez and Anthony Lucero, both of Tome; his step-daughters, Lenore Lucero, of Albuquerque, and Yolanda Lucero, of Phoenix. Also surviving are his sister Helen Victoria, of California; his grandchildren, Denise Rodela and husband Melvin, Christopher Rodela Jr., Victoria Rodela and Nicole Camejo; and great-grandchildren, Lové Camejo, Xavian Rodela, Tru Camejo, Maci Barns, Neci Rodela, Malorie Barns and Giodanni Barns.
