Albert Roy Torres was born in Hondo, on Feb. 27, 1950. He had lived in Bloomfield for the past 35 years. Albert joined his Angel Daddy Ignacio on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Albert was the fourth of six children born to Amanda Montes Torrez and Ignacio Gutierrez Torrez.
He was planning to retire from Public Service Co. of [auth] New Mexico as a master electrician in the next few months, after 35 years of stellar service.
Albert was raised in the Hondo Valley, where he took pride in helping on his parents’ farm, the family’s fruit orchard. He attended Hondo Valley Public Schools and graduated in 1968. Albert also attended New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned an associate’s degree in electronics.
Albert then joined the New Mexico National Guard, returned from training, and continued working as an electrician in Borger, Texas, and Ruidoso.
Upon completing his electrician jobs, he began his career with PNM at the San Juan Power Plant in Farmington. Albert was a supervisor of maintenance and HVAC, and held many instrumental positions.
Albert enjoyed the outdoors where he hunted and snow skied. He was also a ski instructor to special needs children and other clients. He especially enjoyed skiing in Purgatory, Colo., one of the best ski resorts in the United States. This is where he did most of his snow ski instruction.
Albert had a heart of gold and enjoyed joking around and making everyone around him feel welcome. No one was a stranger to Albert. He loved his family very much and enjoyed all his friends. He always had a smile on his face and will be remembered for his wit and serious knowledge.
Albert is survived by his loving partner of 12 years Dorothy; his son Ryan Albert; Dorothy’s children, David and Rikki; granddaughters, Lori and Tasha; dear mother Amanda Montes Torrez; brothers, Ray and wife Theresa, and Joe and wife Priscilla; sisters, Lydia and husband Juan Gomez, Lorena and partner Oziel Chavez, and Elizabeth (Betty) and husband Robert (Butch) Villareal; and many loving nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends.
