I want to thank the 500 runners and walkers who made this year’s Alien Chase one of the largest and most successful in the 18 years since the inaugural event in 1995. In addition, the sponsorship of Lovelace Regional Hospital was instrumental in this year’s event and through the combined efforts we were able to present a check to the Roswell Humane Society in the amount of $2,000 to assist them in their future endeavors.
Thanks to the Roswell Recreation Department in assisting the Runners Club in the logistical support of the races, and also to Donna’s Ceramics, Pecos Flavors Winery and Peppers Grill And Bar. Kudos to Mrs. Roswell, Irina Gorbunova-Ford, Steve Lamontine, Doris Callaway, Joan Blodgett, Mandy Owens, Vern Dyer, Mike and Carol Draeger, Roy and Geoff Gunn, Rueben Sanchez and his staff at the Civic Center, the Roswell Lodgers Tax, Perry Toles, Clyde McKee, Anna Edwards, waterstation lifesavers Julie Spellman and Elaine Mayfield, the staff of the Humane Society, Bonnie Jones, the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, the Pecos Valley Amateur Radio Club, Bonnie Jones, Larry Griffin and Julie Shuster.
Thanks also to Joe West and the Santa Fe Review for providing the music at the after event. The Runners Club would also like to thank MainStreet Roswell and the Roswell Museum and Art Center and all of their members who worked hard to make this year’s festival a reality.
Skateboard event a success
I would like to thank the Roswell community for supporting the fourth annual Skateboard Competition. It was a wonderful success thanks in part to several local businesses for their sponsorship.
We had just under 50 participants and 300 spectators. The Yucca Recreation Center staff was fabulous as always and the Roswell Parks Department did a great job getting the facility ready for us.
My sincerest gratitude to Peppers Restaurant, Roswell Daily Record, Los Cerritos Restaurant, Classic Custards, Woods Sports, CRM Discount Trophies, ENMMC, Hampton Inn & Suites, Q97.1 FM and Majestic Communications for their continued support of Roswell Parks and Recreation activities. The event wouldn’t be made possible without the commitment of the volunteers, parents and many dedicated individuals. Roswell is blessed to have sporting opportunities such as this to expose our youth to. The success of the competition was based on teamwork by the staff, media and participants. The Parks and Recreation Department prides itself on being able to touch all the lives it serves. We are grateful to live in such a giving and caring community.
The Parks and Recreation Department, under the direction of Mr. Kim Elliott, appreciate all who came out. Planning for next year’s event is under way to make it bigger and better and even more entertaining.
