2/4/16 – 7/5/12
Mike “Pic” Croney, 96, of Roswell, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, at his daughter’s home on Thursday, July 5, 2012.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
He was born the sixth of seven children in Glenco, Wyo., to Tom and Julia (Radomski) Croney. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, The Love of His Life, Gertrude “Gert” “Sis” Gebo Croney; son, Bill Michael Croney and wife Donna, of Grandview, Mo.; daughter, Margo Croney Chambers Fogarty, of Roswell; four precious grandchildren, Heath Chambers, of Roswell, Will Croney, of Kansas City, Mo., Kristina Croney Hill, of Roswell, and Heather Fogarty, of Albuquerque; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mike graduated from Superior, Wyo., High School in 1937. He worked one summer with the CCC. He then went to work for the Union Pacific Coal Co. on the loading tipple, before working underground in the coal mine. After the coal mines shut down in 1953, he went to work for Hanna Nickel Smelter in Riddle, Ore., as maintenance and welder. The family returned to Wyoming in 1962, where Mike worked for U.S. Steel Co. near Lander, Wyo., until retiring in 1978. In 1980, Mike and Gert moved to Roswell to be near their son and family — escaping the cold Wyoming winters.
His greatest pleasure was camping and fishing with his precious family in the Upper Green River, Wyo., sage chicken hunting in the Upper Sweetwater, Wyo., and camping in southern Colorado.
He was an adoring and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christians United for Israel at cufi.org/donatewww.cufi.org/donate, OR Grace Community Church 935 W Mescalero Road, Roswell, NM 88201.
