Cemetery concerns

July 3, 2012 • Dear Editor

Dear Editor:

I read, with interest and astonishment, the article in the June 24 edition of the Roswell Daily Record about the city of Roswell’s approval for a veterans cemetery.

I agree that all veterans deserve a free and peaceful looking place for their family members to visit as I have a [auth] husband, a son, a brother, two uncles and four brothers-in-law who have all served our country, and all but three are already in their final resting places, which include both South Park and Memory Lawn Memorial Park.

My concern is that a million dollars will be spent to develop a new cemetery for this purpose and the city of Roswell will maintain it upon completion of development when Memory Lawn has empty land already dedicated for expansion, yet it has been abandoned with all the existing graves, which includes hundreds of veterans having nothing but dead weeds and trees to greet the family members who go to honor their loved one.

I would like to urge the city of Roswell to take over and restore this cemetery as these veterans and all others buried there deserve a better place to rest in peace.
