Authorities investigating body found in Taos gorge

TAOS, N.M. (AP) — The Taos County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a body in the Rio Grande Gorge near Taos.

The Taos News ( reports [auth] authorities hadn’t yet recovered the body Tuesday.

Undersheriff Ed Romero says authorities are still looking into whether the incident was a suicide.

Romero says tourists found a bag on a viewing platform on the Rio Grande Gorge bridge on Sunday that contained a passport, wallet, rental car keys and various electronics including an iPhone.

Deputies say the body was reported Monday morning by a worker at the bridge who spotted it about two miles downstream.
