SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A strategic planner and management expert has been hired as the new director of New Mexico’s Motor Vehicle Divisi[auth] on.

State Taxation and Revenue Secretary Demesia Padilla announced the appointment of Mark Williams on Friday. He will replace Keith Perry, who resigned in October.

Williams says he plans to focus on making MVD more responsive to customer needs so that it’s easier to deal with driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations.

Williams has worked at the New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority for the past eight years. He created the authority’s communications department and developed its strategic planning process.

He also worked in international marketing at American Express and founded a management consulting practice with operations in Latin America and Asia.

Williams has a master’s degree in finance from Cornell University.

He will start his new job Monday.
