The latest addition to the Lovelace Health System family h as found its patriarch. Lovelace Regional Hospital-Roswell has named Lloyd Scarrow as its new chief executive officer.
“It was an opportunity that was just serendipitous to what I was ready for in terms of a new challenge,” Scarrow said.
Scarrow comes to Lovelace from Advanced Surgical Hospital in Washington, Penn., where he served as CEO of Acute and Ancillary Services for three years. He brings more than 25 years of health care service to the position. Previously, he served as group vice president of Nueterra Healthcare in Leawood, Kan., and as CEO of hospital facility expansion developments in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. He earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration from Lubbock Christian University and his MBA with certification in health organizational management from Texas Tech University.
With his leadership commencing July 9, Scarrow plans to maintain the current work ethic, quality initiative, community involvement and focus on better services that the hospital provides.
“There are a lot of people who really want to be exploited for their talent and shored up in their weakness. That’s what I bring to the game,” Scarrow said. “In the community, as the CEO, it’s my job to lead those efforts and follow what they’re already leading and get out of the way where they don’t need to be hindered.”
The hospital has an existing capacity to expand part of its emergency role, Scarrow said. He anticipated capitalizing on this opportunity by creating an “umbilical cord to services that are available at higher level tertiary care (centers),” coordinating transfers and garnering a higher level of care locally with the support of the Lovelace system.
Scarrow said he is attracted to the Lovelace model’s New Mexico-based attitude regarding im-provement and community standard, its great understanding of managed care, and its aim to be a “continuum of care, instead of a shuffle.” He noted the existing harmony between what the Lovelace system brings and what those in the area expect.
Scarrow is a commercial-rated airline transport pilot, sworn sheriff deputy, and Angel Flight volunteer for medical transports. A native of New Mexico, Scarrow said, “Most people who are unfamiliar with New Mexico might think of it as the middle of nowhere, for me it’s the middle of everywhere. I have family and friends surrounding throughout that area.”
