SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed a retired Air Force col[auth] onel as state’s next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Martinez made the announcement Monday on the appointment of Greg Myers, who had been serving as acting secretary after then-secretary Michael Duvall resigned in January to take a job at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Duvall had been in the job since Martinez took office last January.

Myers served as director for process improvement and integration at Kirtland Air Force Base and commander of the Air Support Operations Squadron at Fort Stewart in Savannah, Ga.

Martinez said as acting director of the department Myers has shown strong leadership skills and is committed to keeping state residents safe.
