Motorcyclist dies in I-40 crash near Moriarty

MORIARTY, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico state police say a motorcyclist has died after his bike collided with a big-rig truck on Interstate 40 near the town [auth] of Moriarty.

State police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald says 59-year-old John Hamilton of Moriarty was merging onto westbound I-40 at about 7 a.m. Sunday when he hit the truck.

Hamilton was thrown off his bike and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

State police are investigating the crash. It isn’t known if drugs or alcohol use contributed to the accident.

Moriarty is about 40 miles east of Albuquerque.
