LOS ANGELES (AP) — Joshua Ledet ran ahead of the competition on “American Idol.”

The booming 20-year-old singer from Westlake, La., had the Fox singing competition’s judges on their feet for his lively rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby.” After the performance, Randy Jackson told Ledet he has everything going for him right now.

Other singers who impressed the panel during the evening of modern tunes included 18-year-old country rocker Skylar Laine of Brandon, Miss., with Kellie Pickler’s “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.” Sixteen-year-old Jessica Sanchez of San Diego also pleased the judges with Jazmine Sullivan’s “Stuttering.”

The singer who has the fewest viewer votes among the seven remaining finalists will face elimination Thursday.
