LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old man suspected of firing several rounds from a handgun in Las Cruces appears to have taken his own life.
Las Cruces Police were called about 2 p.m. Monday after someone called 911 to report a neighbor was outside firing a handgun into the air.
Police arrived and the man went inside his home and refused all attempts at communicating with officers.
Police SWAT and negotiation teams made several unsuccessful attempts at talk to the man, who appears to have fired several more rounds from inside the residence.
About 5 p.m., SWAT team members entered the home and found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the man’s name is being withheld until his relatives are notified.
