ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police have shot and killed a man in northeast Albuquerque.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (http://bit.ly/Gzs2KZ ) police are investigating the shooting of a man identified as Daniel Tillison, also known as Oreo.
Police Chief Ray Schultz said the man was approached by police as he was allegedly selling stolen stereo equipment. There was a confrontation and the man tried to flee in a vehicle.
Schultz said he ran into two cars, including a police vehicle, before an officer fired two rounds. One shot hit the car, and the other hit the man. He died on the scene.
The Albuquerque police department came under fire last year for a rash of fatal police shootings in 2010 and 2011. The Department of Justice is reviewing the cases to see if a civil rights probe is warranted.
