Viola “Granny-Auntie” Williams

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Midway Baptist Church with Pastor Leo Pennington officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, from noon to 8 p.m.

Viola Faye Williams, 76, of Dexter, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.

Viola was born on Sept. 7, 1935, in Wagner, Okla., to Virgil Kennedy and Jewel (Hinds) Kennedy. She married Claude [auth] “Bill” Williams, Sept. 13, 1951. They had 60 wonderful years of marriage. She was an “angel” and loved singing in the Midway Baptist Choir. Viola worked for Levi Strauss in Roswell for 32 years. Viola enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, cross stitch and spending time with her family. She won several Blue Ribbons with her quilts and cross stitch.

Those preceding her in death are parents Virgil Kennedy and Jewel Hinds Kennedy Maples; daughter, Claudia Faye Williams; grandsons, Christopher Cones and Gilbert Alejandro Rincon; and sisters, Shirley and Fern Kennedy ; her brother, Ernest Kennedy.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband, Claude “Bill” Williams; children, Patricia (George) Bryne of Roswell, Sharon (Joe) Flores of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Debra Stanislawczyk and Steve Williams of Roswell; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and nine siblings, Loretta (Howard) Williams, Paul Kennedy, Dora (Alan) Lard, Louise Griffin, Fred (Marsha) Kennedy, Elvin Kennedy, Loren (Linda) Kennedy, Johnny (Reba) Kennedy and Gayle (Terry) Ferguson.

Paul Kennedy, Loren Kennedy, John Kennedy, Fred Kennedy, Elvin Kennedy, Alan Lard, Howard Williams and Terry Ferguson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Williams (son), George Bryne (son-in-law), Joe Flores (son-in-law), Anthony Flores (grandson), Miguel Rincon (grandson), Dave VerPlanck (grandson), Shannon Kelsey (grandson), and Raymond Evartt (grandson).
