ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police say a woman rushing an overdose victim to a hospital turned left in front of oncoming traffic and caused a head-on accident.

Police spokesman officer Robert Gibbs says the [auth] woman’s passenger, 23-year-old Phillip Moreno, wasn’t breathing when medical workers checked him after the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, but it isn’t known if he died of an overdose or from injuries he received in the Saturday evening wreck.

Police didn’t say if the woman driving Moreno or the driver of the other vehicle were injured, but said neither was impaired.

Gibbs says another driver was arrested on DWI and hit-and-run charges after he struck a police aide who was directing traffic around the accident site at Montano Road and Interstate 25. The aide wasn’t injured.
