ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The lawyer for two Santa Fe police officers fired after police video of an arrest they made was aired on television wants the reporter to explain how he obtained the tape.
An attorney for Albuquerque television station KOB-TV and reporter Gadi Schwartz is fighting the subpoena. He says Schwartz got police dash-board camera footage from a confidential source and he is shielded by state court rules and constitutional protections from having to reveal the source.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (http://bit.ly/tS4qZQ ) that attorney Timothy White believes someone released the video to try to influence internal disciplinary proceedings.
Officers Troy Baker and Steve Cosban were fired in July for their actions during a 2010 arrest at a Santa Fe Walmart.
Baker and Cosban sued to get their jobs back.
