A family argument turned into a shoot-out, Wednesday, in the 700 block of South Cedar Avenue.
“Around 8:30 this morning, we received a phone call about some kind of an altercation that resulted in shots fired,” said Roswell Police spokesman Officer Travis Holley.
At least one person was injured during the shooting. Johnny Otero, 27, was taken to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds, which Holley called serious. “Otereo had been [auth] dropped off at a local emergency room. His condition is unknown at this time.”
He referred to the scene as chaotic. “Several vehicles left, but we have detained several witnesses,” Holley said.
The police have a person of interest in association with the shooting. “We do have a suspect we are looking for,” he said.
Detectives named the suspect in the shooting as Richard Otero, also known as Little Ricky.
He is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weight 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
“It looks to be a family fight,” said Holley.
Holley added, “It’s not the normal time of day we get such a call.” However, he noted that because the call came in early in the shift that the police were able to arrive on the scene within minutes.
He was unwilling to divulge the number of people who had been detained for questioning.
Neither was he willing to speculate on the cause of the original argument.
“It’s early in the investigation. We have to sort through it as best we can,” Holley said.
However, he urged people who have information on the whereabouts of Richard Otero to contact the Criminal Investigation Division, 575-624-6770, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-TIPS (8477)
