The deadline is approaching for artisans, cooks and crafters to get their homemade goods entered into the Eastern New Mexico State Fair contest.
Those with a knack at making homemade goods and treats may win a ribbon or two, or even a cash prize.
Entries for all items except baked goods must be turned in Friday or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Arts and [auth] Crafts building at the fairgrounds. Items may also be turned in Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
Baked goods entries must be received Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Arts and Crafts building. Entry fee for all goods is $2 per entry and the maximum charge is $6.
Everyone who enters gets a free day pass to the ENMSF.
Judges will be looking at everything but the baked food entries Monday through Wednesday. They will determine the section winners and best of show. Then, the sweepstakes winner will be determined from those who won best of show.
The same procedure will be used to judge baked goods.
The sweepstakes winner will win $300. Best of show walks away with an extra $100. Section winners will be awarded $25.
Entry categories are: clothing, quilts, baked foods, creative arts, fine arts, needle arts, preserved foods, woodworking, photography and items made from either ceramic, clay, or glass.
Judy Hobson, superintendent of the Arts and Crafts building, said each entry must have 10 samples to qualify to win a cash prize.
The ENMSF will be Oct. 3 through Oct. 8.
