RATON, N.M. (AP) — A baby bear has been killed by New Mexico officials after she strolled into a hardware store and startled residents.
KOAT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/qXswO1) that state Game and Fish officials killed the cub this week following her surprise visit to Record’s Hardware Store in Raton.
A surveillance video caught the one-year-old bear barreling down a very busy part of town in broad daylight and walking inside the store’s main door. The bear bolted out of the store and took refuge in a nearby back yard.
Game and Fish officials said the situation could have turned dangerous, but no injuries were reported.
Game and Fish warden Clint Henson said officials killed the bear after they determined the cub’s actions were “not good bear behavior.”
