PD raid pot grower close to Albuquerque school

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police raided a pot growing operation just steps from a Northeast Heights school. KOAT-TV ( ) reports police carted off at least 47 pot plants growing in the [auth] garage of a home near Barstow Street and Paseo del Norte Boulevard, less than a block away from Dennis Chavez Elementary School.

Police arrested the homeowner after neighbors tipped them off, saying they couldn’t ignore the strong fumes coming the home. Parents with children attending the nearby school say they’re in disbelief and are concerned because dozens of students walk down the street and pass the home every day.

The homeowner Richard Mata was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and intent to distribute. He has bonded out of jail Tuesday.
